An Afternoon of Sport

So many Farleigh pupils had a really enjoyable afternoon of sport yesterday, either playing Twyford or competing in tournaments at other prep schools.

The U13 boys put in an excellent performance against Twyford at home despite Year 8 missing several boys due to illness and injury. Players from the ‘B’ team stepped up to join the Year 8s and Graeme Ellison was “delighted by the quality of rugby on show from both teams.”

The U13 and U11 girls who went to Bryanston School for their annual prep school netball tournament, where approximately 24 schools take part, both finished as runners-up of the main competition. This is a really good achievement at the start of the season with the U13 girls losing by just one goal in the final.

Other notable perfomances came from the U10 boys and girls who went to Westbourne House for their respective rugby and hockey tournaments. The boys played some excellent rugby in the group stages beating the hosts Westbourne House in the first game, drawing with Twyford and beating Great Walstead to finish top of the group. The team reached the final and were beaten by an impressive Aldro team, but it was a really good performance by the Farleigh team to finish runners up out of nine schools. More importantly, the team is continuing to show excellent progress in every game.

The girls played against six other schools in a round robin event. They won all their matches by 1-0 or 2-0 against some good opposition, notably Highfield, Twyford and Westbourne House. Congratulations to both teams.

The U8s were also involved in their first rugby and hockey matches of the term this week. Playing against Thorngrove the children thoroughly enjoyed their games and benefited from the experience.
