Fixtures Galore

It was a great day of fixtures on Wednesday with 14 football fixtures against Cothill and Yateley Manor; two excellent senior girls' hockey matches v Godolphin; and good Years 4 and 5 House Netball, won by Eagles. It was a very tiring afternoon of sport for many of our pupils, still shaking off the summer excesses!

Senior boys' football and girls' hockey teams took part in respective tournaments at Highfield School, competing against the hosts and a number of other schools including Amesbury, Edgeborough, Hoe Bridge, Lanesborough, St Edmund's and Westbourne House in the football; and Alton School, Lord Wandsworth College, Tormead, Westbourne House and Windlesham in the hockey.

A squad of 14 boys, split into two teams, took part in the six-a-side football tournament with the A team winning their group and progressing through to the semi-finals against Twyford. It went to a penalty shootout and after some fantastic saves from Jack Ralph, it was a winning penalty from birthday boy Freddie Dinan that saw Farleigh through to the final against Hoe Bridge. The boys played exceptionally well and dominated possession, but a late breakaway goal from the opposition meant that we lost 1-0 despite a fantastic performance. The B team played six group games, winning four and drawing two, and so progressing to the final against St Edmund's. Despite some exceptional play, a well taken goal from St Edmund's meant that the Bs also lost 1-0. Well done to both teams, who played some great football and represented Farleigh superbly throughout the afternoon.

The 1st XI hockey team played three round robin games in their hockey tournament. The first game was against Lord Wandsworth and they drew 0-0; next up was Windlesham House and we won 1-0; the third game was against Highfield School which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Farleigh finished in joint 1st place at the top of their pool, meaning the final position was decided on the toss of a coin. Unfortunately, we lost the toss and were put into the play-off for 3rd and 4th place against Edgeborough. Some excellent play resulted in us winning 2-1 and finishing 3rd overall.

The 2nd XI also had a very successful day, recording two wins, two draws and one loss to the eventual winners, Alton. The team defended very well, conceding one goal over the five games, and only a few narrow misses at the other end prevented them reaching the final. A great day of hockey - well done girls.
