Howzat for Starters?

The cricket season started in fine style this week with 15 fixtures taking place on Wednesday afternoon; the boys' and girls' teams playing in matches against Pilgrims' and Lambrook schools respectively and the U10A team taking part in a cricket festival at Canford School.

The conditions for cricket were excellent, and the parents and staff were treated to fantastic play throughout the afternoon. It was a great opportunity to put into practice the work that many of the players have been doing in the nets throughout the winter, and for staff to assess their team's strengths and areas for development in the coming matches.

As the season develops, some of the senior girls will have the opportunity to play in the senior boys' teams, which is a fantastic development and a credit to those girls who only started playing cricket last year.

Linda Machin, Head of Girls' Games, adds, “With very little cricket training the senior girls faced their first match yesterday with trepidation. However, we surprised ourselves with wins for the 1st and 3rd teams and a draw for the 5ths. The away teams both lost (I'm claiming home advantage) but all were close matches with the 1sts winning by two runs.”
