Bryanston Netball Tournament Winners

It was a crisp day with glorious sunshine - perfect for a day of netball at Bryanston School's annual Prep Schools' Netball Tournament. The U13 girls had a tremendous day, winning the Tournament against stiff opposition from 23 other prep schools. The U11 girls, playing in a tournament comprising 29 schools, were outstanding too and won the Plate Competition.

The U13 girls began the tournament with a win against Durlston Court, putting them in good spirits for their next opponents! The winning streak continued and the girls played some excellent netball to defeat the rest of their opponents in their side of the draw - Mount Kelly, Hanford, Clayesmore and Barrow Hills. As the wins clocked up, the pressure mounted and the girls were determined to do well. They continued warming up together in the breaks, encouraging each other and discussing team tactics, which paid off as they made it through to the semi-finals against Dumpton. Cheered on by the parental support, the girls tackled the toughest game of the day. In a tight match, Dumpton and Farleigh were neck and neck, but good interceptions throughout gave Farleigh the edge as they won 4-3. Meeting their friendly rivals in the final, Twyford, the girls played some excellent netball to win comfortably. Captain, Lydia Greenwood, praised her team: "The defenders, Fleur, Katie and Evie, were really good and played amazingly. The shooters, Amy, Bryana and Matilda, were fantastic too and it was a real team effort." Coach Kelly Smith was delighted with the result, saying "the girls played brilliantly throughout; they displayed great athleticism, focus and real fighting spirit. It was a joy to see and they were thoroughly deserved winners. Well done!"

The U11 girls played some fantastic netball in their games against Perrott Hill, Blundell's, Port Regis, Hanford, Salisbury Cathedral School and Highfield. They showed determination and team spirit, and lost only one match, by a single goal. This put them in the Plate Competition and a semi-final against Amesbury, which they won, 6-3. In a very exciting, evenly matched and nail biting final against Barrow Hills, the Farleigh girls triumphed 2-1 to win the Plate. Audrey Hill, U11 coach, said, "the girls were a credit to Farleigh and played excellent netball for a well-deserved win."

Farleigh's players of the tournament, both awarded a Bryanston water bottle, were Amy Beckett and Romy Coulton.
