Fantastic Fortnight of Sport at Farleigh

It has been a great two weeks for sporting success at Farleigh. Last Wednesday, 27th February, the U10 boys were winners (B team) and runners up (A team) at their respective rugby tournaments at Portsmouth Grammar School, and the U10B girls won the hockey tournament, also at PGS.

On the same day, at Port Regis, the U11 girls qualified in third place for the IAPS National Netball Finals, which will be held later this month, as did the U13 girls, who won their regional qualifier on Friday and will also be going through to the National Finals.

On Monday, 4th March, pupils from Years 5-8 took part in the regional IAPS swimming event at Winchester College, competing against teams from Bedales, Boundary Oak, Castle Court, Durlston Court, Pilgrims' and Twyford. Farleigh entered 16 individual and two relay events, covering freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Unofficially, Farleigh won both the U10 medley relay and U10 freestyle relay, and from the 16 individual events, Farleigh won 10, came 2nd in five and were a tight 3rd/4th in one. We are awaiting the official results from all regions, which will determine if any of our swimmers have qualified for the Nationals taking place in June at the Aquatic Centre in London. Mr Wright, Assistant Director of Sport, added, "This is the first time that Farleigh has entered a team into the IAPS competition so we were unsure of the standard, but the performances from all our swimmers were outstanding and every swimmer should be extremely proud of their achievement."

On Tuesday, 5th March, the cross country team had a very successful afternoon at Milton Abbey in extremely wet and muddy conditions. This was a very competitive event against many other schools and we are very proud of all the runners. The U11 and U12 boys won both the individual race and the team events. The U13 boys came second overall and the U11 girls were third.
