Virtual Geography

Geography lessons took a virtual twist this week with the arrival of Google Expeditions who enable pupils to explore all four corners of the world from the comfort of their classroom.

Through a piece of 'google cardboard', pupils could 'virtually' experience a multitude of curriculum-related topics. Year 6 explored the habitats of the world, Year 5 met rainforest creatures at the bottom of a cave in Borneo, and Year 4 explored landfill sites in New York and the Taj Mahal, whilst Year 7 undertook exothermic reaction science experiments and visited the Pacific Ring of Fire, linked to their work on volcanoes and earthquakes.

The experience was so realistic that one of our teachers actually felt the onset of vertigo looking down from the top of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro and Year 3s were seen waving enthusiastically to a virtual David Attenborough standing before them!
