Blasting Off in Year One!

As part of our Space Topic, Year 1 have had a really exciting time building space rockets in the DT lab with Mr Tween. To nurture and expand upon their knowledge, they were invited to the main school’s DT department, where Mr Tween challenged them to make and test an air-powered rocket!

The DT room buzzed with space engineer-like activity as the children used their new ‘Forces’ science knowledge to build the best possible rockets using cardboard and pure air power.

Once the rockets were completed, of course they needed a test flight, so everyone headed out to the Astro all weather-pitch, where both surface and weather provided perfect launch conditions. There was great excitement as the children donned their safety goggles. Then each rocket engineer took his or her turn to press the launch button and send their rocket zooming into the sky.

With the maiden test mission complete, Pre-Prep Command reported that the flights had gone successfully, proving that all the natural laws at Farleigh are working the way that they should. It’s safe to say everyone involved had a blast in their brilliant morning of design technology.
