E-Buddies visit local Care Homes

Last Friday, 5K started off this year’s class visits to local care homes with a visit to Winton House Care Home, Nether Wallop. The pupils took printouts of work from their e-Portfolios to discuss with their new friends, and had a good chat with them. They discovered one lady had been a racing driver, another a prep school matron, a man who had been a judge, one who had been a prep school headmaster, and another a doctor! The pupils were thrilled to learn about them, and the residents loved the opportunity to chat to someone from the young generation.

On Monday, it was 5B’s turn to visit residents at Harrier Grange Care Home. They took school iPads with them and showed their e-buddies their e-Portfolios and had friendly conversations with them. The technology was no challenge to their new friends, who found it an excellent way to pass on what the children had been up to.

On the way home in the minibus, on both trips, the pupils were literally buzzing with excitement as they were each telling each other about their conversations. They are already asking when they can go back. Thankfully, we have dates fixed for March and May, when we will also be taking 5E to another care home, Lion Oak Court.

It is hard to explain what an amazing experience it is to witness the young and old engaging with each other with such enjoyment and compassion. But you can get an idea from the expressions on their faces!
