Kick Off for the New Rugby Season

Despite the challenges of the term, we have had a really good start to the rugby season. Though block fixtures haven’t been able to run as hoped, this hasn’t dampened spirits in any way. The children have gone about everything so far in a way that has been absolutely wonderful to see. We are really impressed with their enthusiasm in training and the way the boys have all approached their games and training sessions since the switch from football.

Fixture-wise, following on from their matches against West Hill Park last week, the U11 boys played in a rugby festival at Durlston Court on Wednesday, where they competed against five other schools - Dumpton, Stroud, Ballard, Forres Sandle Manor and Durlston. Although they lost the first game to Dumpton, it was close, with a 10-5 loss. As the day progressed, however, they knuckled down and won all the other matches, having to show real determination in several games to break the opposition down in attack and defend against some much bigger opposition.

A team of U13 boys travelled to Forres Sandle Manor where they played three fixtures against the hosts, and Stroud and Ballard. Considering it was their first competitive game for nearly two years the boys played some fantastic rugby. Their handling skills in particular were impressive, scoring eight tries in total. Altogether a wonderful learning experience!

This has been a solid start to rugby with lots of positives and potential for the season ahead. Given the current form and attitude, we are hopeful for the weeks to come and looking forward to the Lambrook and Sandroyd fixtures next week.
