O Sole Mio - A night of Italian music

Our children are always so ready to rise to a challenge and last week's Italian concert, O Sole Mio, proved the point beautifully! From the rousing opening number, Poppa Piccolino, featuring the newly created Clatford Gasworx Onsomble, a fabulous marching band formed for the occasion, the audience were treated to a Neapolitan selection of the finest quality.

The music varied from grand arias sung in exquisite Italian to smaller instrument ensembles playing music of the great Italian composers. Vivaldi's Spring from his Four Seasons was performed by a violin sextet, and the programme would not have been complete without a rendition of O Sole Mio presented most perfectly by a small group of Year 6 flautists. Two young pianists joined forces to play an Italian dance with great spirit in its arrangement for four hands, fast moving fingers brought a solo piano arrangement of Rossini's William Tell Overture to life, and the music of the well known Italian composer Einaudi was beautifully performed by two soloists.

Funiciulì, Funiculà, performed with great gusto by the band, brought the evening to a close leaving the audience with whetted appetites for the next musical treats in store this term!

Huge thanks to Mr Reeves who masterminds all proceedings, to the music teachers for their tireless preparation of their performers, and of course to the children themselves!
